Shikdamakha village (One of the Cleanest villages of Assam):
Shikdamakha is a picturesque village situated in the Umswai Valley of West Karbi Anglong District.
The village has already created a model in cleanliness and beautification.It is located 35 Km from Nellie junction of Guwahati- Kaziranga Highway and less than 100 Km from the capital city. The village has a literacy rate of 85.90%, with a total population of 480 residents.
Koka Picnic Spot:
Koka, located in West Karbi Anglong, Assam. Koka picnic spot is one of the most beautiful yet unexplored places of Assam. It is around 30 kms from Lanka town and around 110 kms from Diphu. It is well known for the hills and natural beauty. It is a paradise for nature lovers and photographers interested in nature photography.
Amreng Tourist Centre:
Amreng located at 80 Kms. from Hamren; 30 Kms from Lanka town. Amreng is a river cape situated between Kapili river and its tributary "Amreng River" surrounded by mystic blue hills and evergreen forest, it is famous for unique natural beauty. Tourist Map had referred to it as Panimur, Koka Hills or Amreng, all are same area.The founder of the village named it as "RIVER CAPE INDIA". Tourist Lodge is on the river bank.
Thai Apsir Waterfall:
Located at around 32 kilometres from the district headquarters, the pristine waterfalls located near Arting and Rupai villages has been a favorite of the tourists since a long time. The place is suitable for trekking, vlogging, picnic with family and friends and basking in the glory of nature, far from the humdrums of the city life.
Metha-long-e, Donkamokam, West Karbi Anglong District:
The site has a group of monoliths known locally as Metha-long-e. The group has atleast 25 monoliths.The height of the taller monoliths ranges from 3.50m to 5.10m. The monolithic columns indicate the lingering megalithic tradition of worship of the souls of the dead for prosperity among the native community.
Umswai Valley :
Umswai valley in West karbi anglong is a part of the ancient Karbi- Meghalaya plateau and is a perfect example of eco-tourism that is gaining a lot of prominence these days. The villages are mostly inhabited by Hill Tiwa tribes, who with their unique ethno-tribal culture and traditions have bright alive their identity along with providing warm hospitality to the people who often visit these places from far and wide.
The villages of Bormarjong, Amsai Pinung, Shikdamakha have gained special prominence over the years.
The cuisine is worth mentioning with most of the produce being locally produced and meat and rice being cooked in bamboo tubes, that gives it a unique and smoky flavor.
The Tiwa monolith in the Amswai Pinung is part of their annual ritual. Every year one monolith is erected during the month of March in a ceremony called “Phidri Chongkhang” by village chief called Phador and Sangot.
Umru: The stoppage points for Amur Falcons
The beautiful village of Umru is situated near Assam Meghalaya border. Every year, around mid October this place comes to prominence due to the halting of Amur Falcons, which travels from Serbia (and later continues their journey to South Africa). The tourists flock here around this time and it turns into an ornithologists’ delight. The Amur falcon festival, showcasing local traditions, cuisines and cultures has been a melting pot of cultural exchange.
Langhempi waterfalls:
Located at around 27 kilometres from the headquarters, near Langhempi town(near Meghalaya border) , the waterfall is a treat to the eyes, coupled with the scenic beauty that the place intrinsically carries. Popular among locals as well as from people of nearby districts, it sees a decent footfall.
Karbi Langpi hydroelectric project(KLHEP):
The Karbi Langpi hydroelectric project is about 125 kms from the city of Guwahati. It envisages power generation of 2x50 MW of electricity by building a concrete gravity dam with spillways on the Karbi Langpi river.
The first unit was commissioned on 30th January, 2007 and second unit on 19th March 2007.
The place has been also popular with tourists who come here to visit the dam site and many come here for industrial trips/exposures as well.
